This internship program allows students from different SD campuses to work collaboratively on improving Sustained Dialogue on current and future campuses. These paid internships bring excellent learning opportunities, hands-on experience, and the opportunity to build a program. Ideal candidates are current students involved in a moderator and/or leadership position with Sustained Dialogue on their campus. Candidates must be self-motivated, responsible, resourceful and personable, with a deep commitment to and understanding of Sustained Dialogue. He or she must have the ability to work on their own, and be willing to develop and implement their own work plan. Strong writing, organization, and communication skills required.

The SDCN Internship Program includes the following:

  • Substantive Projects include those such as resource material development, technology projects, developing media strategies, strengthening the SD network and current programs, and an evaluation and assessment project. Interns will work closely with both Program Directors.
  • Time for internal assessments on their own individual SD programs.
  • Sharpen moderating and leadership skills through an intimate ‘mini-Sustained Dialogue’ with co-interns and Program Directors throughout the term of the internship
  • Brown Bag Speakers Series featuring private lunches with leaders and activists in fields of dialogue, deliberation, and international relations.
  • Conversation Series with Dr. Harold Saunders, Chairman and President of the International Institute for Sustained Dialogue, former Assistant Secretary of State.

"Sustained Dialogue has challenged me to step out of the boundaries set by my own surface assumptions about other people. I have become comfortable talking about issues of race, gender, religion, and the relationships that are encompassed by these issues. Without Sustained Dialogue it would have taken me many more years to arrive where I am today. It has been an amazing experience, and has only fueled my determination in creating an environment where issues can be discussed at the dinner table rather than swept under the rug."
