Role of the Moderator

What role does the moderator play in any given dialogue? Moderators enable the dialogue group to function effectively. This involves:  
  • using the faciliation skills honed in Moderator Workshop to create a safe dialogue space and to help the group dig deeper around sources of tension
  • helping the group progress through the 5 SD stages
  • preparing and closing dialogues with summaries and agendas
  • tying themes together during meetings
  • organizing and managing the logistics of the group
  • providing the neutral voice that enables the safe space to be sustained
Moderator Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Runs the Dialogue Meeting
  • Convenes
  • Moderates
  • Debriefs
  • Plans homework/continuing exercise
  •  Helps set rough agenda
  • Closes the dialogue  
  • Attends Bi-Weekly Moderator Meetings
  • Meets with Co-Moderator
  • Maintains Group E-mail List
  • Facilitates Group Cohesion
  • Promotes Group Ownership
