Record Keeping

Keeping a written record of your SD program is an easy way to ease the transition process as each new leader takes over. One easy way to achieve this is by building an SD Leader binder, complete with notes from moderator and leadership meetings, sample emails for announcing events, descriptions of Info Sessions, the Kick Off event, sample flyers, budgets, and any news articles that have been published on SD at your school. A few blank pages at the end of the binder is excellent for leaders to keep a running list of participants since the beginning, and to jot notes on ‘best practices’ (things that worked well, things that didn’t).

Your records are important for creating organizational and institutional memory and should be  passed on from year to year. Students and administrators ten years from now should be able to reflect on the articles published about and awards won by SD on your campus. This is among the best ways to not only make SD a part of your campus culture, but also to reveal the accomplishments made along the way througho ut its his tory.

"Sustained Dialogue has challenged me to step out of the boundaries set by my own surface assumptions about other people. I have become comfortable talking about issues of race, gender, religion, and the relationships that are encompassed by these issues. Without Sustained Dialogue it would have taken me many more years to arrive where I am today. It has been an amazing experience, and has only fueled my determination in creating an environment where issues can be discussed at the dinner table rather than swept under the rug."
